As you know, Australia is in a period of unbelievable drought and the immense bush fire tragedy is almost unimaginable in magnitude.

The fires have destroyed homes, businesses and more sadly human lives and wildlife.  Personal stories of losses suffered by families have been heartbreaking and so far, thousands of people have been supported in evacuation centres and recovery hubs across Australia.

We express deep gratitude to the Emergency Services who continue to fight the ongoing bush fires spreading across our beautiful country.

In times of crisis, the spirit of community, of fortitude and determination is remarkable.  One of those amazing people who is on a mission to help those in need is USQ Nursing Alumnus, Jodie Silva.  Born and raised in country Victoria, Jodie is now working as a nurse in the Australian Army. She has raised $1.4 million (and counting) for Australia’s bushfire relief effort. #USQpride

We have come together to help others and this has been evident for all to see in recent weeks.  While we may change the numbers in our history books, what does not change is the courage, tenacity and generosity of people in such extraordinary circumstances.

If you would like to make a donation, there are a number of organisations currently supporting people and wildlife affected by the bushfires including, but not limited to:
