A University of Southern Queensland (USQ) student gained state-wide media attention this month after launching a new food ordering app, HappyToo, in Toowoomba.
Described as the region’s answer to Uber Eats, HappyToo was developed by Bachelor of Business graduate, Jiny Yi, and has already attracted more than 60 local businesses.
At just 30 years of age, Jiny now employs 15 part-time drivers and is responsible for satisfying hungry customers across the Garden City.
Born in Korea, Jiny made the move to Australia in 2011 where he planned to fulfill his dream of studying overseas.
After working and travelling for two years, Jiny moved to Toowoomba, his so-called “second home” and enrolled at USQ.
“I really loved my time at USQ,” Jiny said.
“I majored in Human Resources Management because I like meeting new people.”
“Studying on-campus in Toowoomba gave me the opportunity to make friends, and that helped me to understand Australian culture and the different study environment.”
It took Jiny four months to develop the HappyToo app, and while he still faces some hurdles, the USQ graduate is well on his way to success.
“We’re in the beginning stages, but so far, so good – we’re always ‘happy to’ help and make improvements,” Jiny said.
