It is USQ’s great pleasure to stay connected with our alumni. There are many opportunities to stay in touch with USQ after your graduation. Through USQ Alumni Chapters, alumni eNewsletter Phoenix Rising, to be recognised by the Alumnus of the Year Awards, and many others. To stay connected, please update your details.
At our annual USQ Alumnus of the Year Awards ceremony, we celebrated many outstanding achievements and successes of our alumni. We were greatly inspired by all our nominees and recipients. The event was held in August at the Empire Church Theatre, Toowoomba and was the largest in the events history. Dr Anne-Marie Nielsen was announced as this year’s Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, as well as Indigenous Alumnus of the Year. You can read more about Dr Nielsen’s achievements here.
Some of the inspirational stories from our alumni include an alumnus who is the top cop for Queensland Police, an alumna who has risen to fame as a popular international TV presenter, an alumnus who dedicated his career to cancer research and alumni who are working in senior roles at Facebook and Instagram. There are many more inspiring stories of our more than 98 800 alumni across 146 countries.
USQ would like to learn about and share your inspiring stories with our broader community. To contribute your stories or ideas please contact USQ Alumni Relations at alumni@unisq.edu.au.
2018 Alumni Events
In 2018, the USQ Alumni Network expanded once again by welcoming more than 3 900 new graduates.
Alumni Relations Office’s presence at USQ’s Market Days allowed us to interact with current students and spread the word on what it means to be an alumnus of USQ, the support services still available after graduation and the many opportunities offered.
In March, USQ Toowoomba hosted this year’s USQ Shine Luncheon which was held in conjunction with International Women’s Day. It was a fabulous event presenting awards to the USQ Shine Bursary recipients while also helping to raise funds for future USQ Shine Bursaries.
USQ’s involvement in the Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival continued this year and reached a large portion of our community. Despite the windy conditions, there was so much fun and enjoyment had for all in attendance.
Alumni Relations Office co-partnered with Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and USQ Careers and Employability Team to deliver a sold-out Business Breakfast event in October. The breakfast provided industry professionals and members of the community with fantastic networking opportunities and showcased USQ Alumni as a part of the industry panel.
Key Chapter Events
USQ Alumni Chapters have had many events in the space of social, charitable, fundraising, and chapter committee networking and meetings this year. Key events from our chapters include:
- The USQ Malaysian Alumni Gala Dinner, held in June at The Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur gave over 100 guests the opportunity to meet University officials and connect with international USQ chapter members, special guests, graduating students, and USQ alumni from Malaysia and other international locations.
- The official launch of the USQ Education Alumni Chapter. Provided alumni the opportunity to be involved by attending in person or online via ZOOM video-conferencing tool. The chapter was established to give USQ education alumni the opportunity to associate and connect with the USQ community. For updates and to get involved with the chapter, please visit the Facebook page.
We thank all the chapter committee and members for their ongoing engagement and support to USQ.
